This report discusses an initial survey performed by the Institute for Laboratory Automation (ILA) and the Lab Managers Association (ALMA).   The purpose of the survey was to move beyond anecdotal comments about people’s readiness to work in modern laboratories, the use of lab automation product/technologies, and begin to build a factual basis for the development of an educational program for the end-user community that addresses their use of modern technologies.   This work was initiated as a result of previously published work by the ILA, and other surveys.
