Welcome to our Educational Program - updated July 28th 2011

The purpose of this educational program is to address the biggest single factor in the success of lab automation programs: the ability of lab personnel to understand and effectively apply products and technologies. This program is designed for those who need to plan and understand lab automation, Lab Managers, developers, and, IT groups that support lab operations (you may want to tell them about it).

The economic climate has caused us to change the method of course delivery. Budget cuts and time-out-of-the-office issues has prevented many companies from having people attend in-person courses. While that is our preferred method of delivery, in part because it allows for better interaction with attendees, we are working on webinars as a means of offering courses until travel restrictions ease up; at that point we will offer both methods of delivery.

Please keep checking this space for updates on what courses will be offered, the schedule and registration.

The Institute for Laboratory Automation and Lab Manager Magazine have partnered together to create “Lab Automation University ℠” as an annual event to provide lab managers, lab personnel and support teams with an opportunity to learn how to plan and apply lab automation technologies to their work. Use the links in the menu bar above to get the details on courses, registration, etc.

The technologies used in laboratory work are increasing in complexity and their ability to improve your labs operations.  Collectively, lab automation technologies and products (informatics, robotics, data acquisition / analysis systems, etc.) represent a major shift in how lab work gets done.  Their impact can be small if addressed as incremental changes to laboratory procedures, or significant if we look at the range of capabilities offered and do the planning needed to take advantage of them.

Why is this training needed?

The products developed for laboratory work are being improved through the use of computer chips to make them easier to use, require less manual effort, and collect & manage data.  In addition, software systems provide labs with increasing capabilities to access lab data, and organize lab operations.  The varieties of products from vendors require lab management to do more extensive planning for their purchase and use.  Planning is becoming increasingly important as we move toward products that interact with each other and exchange information.  The purpose of Lab Automation University is to provide an opportunity to learn how to plan for, purchase and utilize lab automation products and technologies.
